Keep your back healthy

The biggest challenge in preventing ailments of the back is the vast amount of different types of strain it has to endure, insufficient exercise and incorrect posture. Get to know your back and pay attention to the prevention of back problems.

A simple, yet effective, ways to keep your back healthy and fit is to

SIT PROPERLY

  • Sitting with your back rounded decreases the flow of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues in the back and weakens the discs and ligaments. A rounded back soon becomes an ill back.
  • Riding-like sitting is the ideal way to sit because the back is not rounded and the posture remains good.
  • When sitting in a car or a sofa use some sort of support, such as a small pillow, for your lower back to maintain the healthy curve in your spine.
  • A good posture decreases shoulder tension and vertebrae problems in the neck and shoulder area.
  • When sitting on an ordinary chair, sit on the front edge of the chair, on top of your sitting bones, spread your legs as far apart as you feel comfortable and tilt your hip forward to find a good and balanced posture.
  • Adjust the height of the table. Have support for elbows on both sides of your body (table, armrest or elbow rests).

Testimonials

We found David from Surgical Systems Ltd. extremely helpful in getting our new practice up
and running. Being a new business it was essential that we were able to get some second hand
items that were of good quality. I don't think that we could have set up with all the equipment
we needed without the help of Surgical Systems Ltd.  David (being a vet himself) has guided us
to select the best products within our budget and has provided us with extremely good aftercare,
which we really have appreciated as setting up a practice is stressful enough!!

Sara Eley MRCVS and Orlaith O'Neill MRCVS of Taunton, UK

THE CAT HOSPITAL, CO., CORK -
Clare Meade, MVB Cert VR - I recently bought some new and used equipment from David at
Surgical Systems Ltd. Purchasing any equipment from a supplier in another country is challenging
and getting used equipment is even more nerve wracking when you do not have an opportunity
to examine it first. I am delighted with all the equipment David sent me. He advised me very well
over the telephone and by email and even sought out some special pieces for me that were not
listed on his website. All the equipment was clean, in excellent condition and in perfect working
order. David was also happy to arrange carriage to Ireland at a reasonable cost. We saved a lot of
money by using Surgical Systems Ltd.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Surgical Systems Ltd to any Vet looking for new or
used equipment. I look forward to doing business with him again.

CHISON Scanners:

CHILTERN EQUINE –
SARAH RANDALL, Vet  - We purchased 2 x Chison 8300 scanners with rectal and tendon probes.
The units are good quality scanners ideally suited to an ambulatory equine practice.  They give
excellent quality images, are easy to use and very durable.

LINDA DEAR, Manager - We purchased 2 x Chison 8300 scanners with rectal and tendon probes
from Surgical Systems. We were given a full demonstration then trialed the scanners for two
weeks. We found this trial very beneficial as it allowed us to fully evaluate the units prior to
purchase. They have been excellent value for money and we have had no complaints from the
vets!  Everyone is happy.

KARL COLLINS, MVB MRCVS, MD Old Stone Vets, Cumbria

" Having dealt with David at Surgical Systems for the purchase and advice on various peices of
veterinary equipment, I found David (being a Vet already), a great help with advise on equipment
capabilities and suitablity for our Practice . In 2008 we need an ultrasound scanner for cattle fertility work. He advised us from a cost benefit
view to choose the CHISON 500. This compact scanner coped more than adequately with our
requirements and gave excellent clear ultrasound images. Our small animal ultrasound machine packed up soon after. David again advised us of the most
financially beneficial way to progress, recommending a CHISON D600 unit which gives excellent
diagnostic capabilities, using a multifrequency microconvex probe.

Both CHISON ultrasound machines were available on a trail basis initially - we were delighted
with them and proceeded to purchase. We have had no screen, picture, probe or technical
difficulties with either machine and would strongly recommend their use. Surgical Systems
and David in particular have been great with any queries and are a pleasure to deal with."
